Socioball is a polished isometric puzzle about a ball that just wants to go home. It has been created by Yellow Monkey Studios, an Indian and indie game developer studio which picked up the game when it was still a PC prototype at NASSCOM GDC 2013. The game was even nominated for Indie Prize at Casual Connect, Amsterdam. The game has around sixty levels and you can always create more.
The game consists of a blue ball that you guide around a hovering grid using special blocks to make the ball jump, teleport or change directions. The solutions for some levels are pretty obvious, but others take some head-scratching. Now, coming to the ‘Socio’ part of the title, the game has a really cool feature to share user-generated levels. Using steganography, which is the art of concealing messages in non-secret data, the game hides puzzle data for the level you created in an image you share on twitter with #socioball. All these levels created by players are accessible by other players as the game decodes the level and make it seamlessly playable from inside the game. Thus, it uses twitter as a very effective level-sharing platform. This feature means that you never run out of levels to play.
The strength of the game lies in its simple, yet imaginative concept which allows for the creation of so many levels. The game looks extremely pretty with its good, clean design. The game misses a soundtrack. You play in complete silence unless the ball hits something. While this may be preferred by some players, many games like Monument Valley have greatly benefited from the inclusion of a great soundtrack. The game retails for Rs. 190 on the App store and is free for Android. That being said, this game deserves your time and money.
