The latest World of Warcraft expansion could be the best one yet

World of Warcraft: Legion has been out for just about a week now. It also happens to be one of the best World of Warcraft Expansions to grace us in a long time. World of Warcraft: Legion is Blizzard’s attempt to make up for past mistakes in their previous expansions and it definitely shows. Legion could possibly be one of the best WoW chapters yet. So it comes as no surprise that it’s a big hit. So much so that Blizzard actually says it’s “one of the fastest-selling PC games ever.”

World of Warcraft: Legion

Blizzard have announced that World of Warcraft: Legion has sold more than 3.3 million copies on its first full day of release. While it doesn’t quite exceed any previous first day sales records, it definitely matches records set by previous expansions. Coincidentally, the Warlords of Draenor expansion also happened to sell 3.3 million copies in its first 24 hours. Legion’s “launch week player concurrency” was at its highest since the release of the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm expansion back in 2010.

Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime said “It’s been a thrill to see players hunting demons, powering up Artifacts, and freely exploring all the new zones in Legion. We worked hard to make this the best World of Warcraft expansion yet, and we look forward to providing players with even more content as Legion’s epic story unfolds in the months ahead.”

Keep in mind that concurrent player count isn’t the same as the total player count or subscriber count. Blizzard decided that they would stop reporting those numbers as of last year. We can safely assume that the player count has gone up with the release of the Legion expansion. This is great news for all the WoW fans out there, so if you were thinking about returning to the World of Warcraft, now is as good a time as any.
