Aah, the smell of fresh gauntlet kills.
Firstly, if you’re someone who has never heard of Quake before, then please go ahead and smack yourself across the head. Done? Good! We take games very seriously here at SKOAR! and Quake even more so. Now moving on to the big news from E3 this year, Bethesda together with id Software have announced that a new Quake game titled: “ Quake Champions ” is under development and is coming soon.
It has hardly been a few weeks since we got the old favourite Doom back (which kicks ass BTW!) and here they come up with Quake Champions. They showcased a CGI trailer at their E3 conference which depicts a heavy battle taking place between some of the old characters of the franchise like Ranger, Visor and some new additions which go by the names ScaleBear and Nyx. It’s quite likely that we will see many old characters come back to the arena alongside new ones.
After analysing the trailer, we noticed that they are introducing certain different character specific abilities that each character can take advantage of. This is seen as Visor can peek through solid objects at his targets, while ScaleBear can power sprint or perform a bull rush and obliterate anything that comes in the way. Ranger on the other hand can make use of his Dire Orb to teleport short distances and Nyx can transform into a blue invincible vapor of some sort for a short amount of time. It will be really interesting to see how these abilities pan out in actual matches since Quake has always been known for its fast gameplay with its lovely arsenal of weapons.
Talking about weapons, it seems like Quake Champions is bound to have most of the weapons that made Quake what it is. Judging from the trailer, it looks like we will see newly designed versions of the Plasma Gun, the Lightning Gun, the classic Machine Gun, a new Shotgun and not to forget the mightiest of the mighty – the classic Rocket Launcher. And ooh ooh, there is a new Rail Gun as well. InstaGib anyone?
Since Quake Champions will be aimed at the e-sport industry, the developers also said that it will retain the popular movement maneuvers like strafe jumping as well our all time favourite – rocket jumping. Now we can’t wait for the game to be released as soon as possible and pray that the developers live up to it. GG Bethesda, right in them feels.

Siddhant "BallisticAnt" Sharma
Often referred to as our lord and savior (forgive us Gabe), this tall lad is known for his wide unblinking gaze while playing Quake III with streaming eyes. And when he isn't pounding people by rockets, you can find him jumping around in Super Meat Boy. He is the elusive Ant and he isn't afraid of boots. Mind you!
