The COBX Masters 2018 eSports tournament will consist of two games – Counter Strike: Global Offensive and DotA 2.
Indian eSports company, COBX Gaming, unveiled their upcoming eSports tournament – COBX Masters 2018. The international tournament is divided into two phases consisting of a total prize pool of Rs. 1 crore. This makes it the second eSports tournament in the country after ESL India Premiership 2018 to have a prize pool of the same amount. Teams from all over the country will be competing for a prize pool of Rs. 10 lakhs in the first phase. The second phase will enable teams from the South East Asia (SEA) region to participate in the tournament. Counter Strike: Global Offensive and DotA 2 are the two games that will be part of the tournament.
First phase announced
The first phase will consist of online qualifiers across 10 cities in the country. They include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kohima, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune. Teams participating in the online qualifiers will go through elimination rounds for the final offline event at a gaming cafe in the respective city. The final city-level offline event will be held for two days between the top four teams from the online qualifiers. The online playoffs will be held between 9-29 April. The offline final event will go on from the 9th of May and 10th of June.
The victorious teams from every city will represent their cities for the final qualifiers in the second phase of the tournament. With the prize pool of Rs. 10 lakhs announced for the first phase, the winning team for each game from each of the ten cities stands a chance of earning Rs. 50,000. This means a total of 20 teams emerging victorious in CS:GO and DotA 2 across the cities mentioned above will be rewarded Rs. 50,000. The 20 teams will progress towards the bigger prize pool.
Second phase with SEA teams
The second phase will allow teams from SEA to participate in the tournament. They will go through online qualifiers to finally compete for an offline tournament held in India competing with the city-level winners. However, nothing concrete was revealed by COBX around the rules on how the SEA qualifiers are going to be organised.
Rajdip Gupta, Founder, COBX Gaming said, “The primary objective of conducting the tournament is to attract the maximum number of professional teams in India”. He added, “ We hope to demonstrate to this audience that gaming can be a lucrative career option, not just for young gamers, but also for talented individuals who are a part of this industry”.
Mujahid Rupani, CEO, COBX Gaming said, “The tournament will bring to India, a global eSports tournament experience for the first time.”
The match rules for both the games haven’t been revealed. We have been told that the registration links will soon be updated.
