The first ever winners of the 2016 Steam Awards

January 2, 2017 — by Manish "Trigger-Happy" Rajesh0

After almost a month of voting, the community have chosen the 2016 winners of the first ever Steam Awards during the Steam Winter Sale

The Steam Awards were first announced during the Steam Autumn sales in late November and the categories were quite creative to say the least. What we mean by that, is that there were categories ranging from The “Whoooaaaaaaa, dude!” Award to The “Villain Most In Need Of A Hug” Award.

Steam users were encouraged to nominate and vote for their favourites and were even awarded with special badges for doing so<insert snarky comment about cards/badges here>. Valve also decided to accept a few categories suggested by the players themselves, such as The ‘Boom Boom’ Award, however, that didn’t mean that they’d accept just anything. Among the denied categories were several variations of the “Game Most In Need Of A Sequel” Award, and we can all guess what everyone had in mind when they suggested that.

“Villain Most In Need Of A Hug” Award: Portal 2

Steam Awards

It’s quite easy to see why the games that won each category are deserving of their win. Another thing we can gauge from the Steam Awards is that Valve games are doing really well, with Counter Strike: Global Offensive nabbing The “Just 5 More Minutes” Award, Dota 2 just losing out to Dark Souls 3 in the “Love/Hate Relationship” category and Team Fortress 2 losing out to Skyrim for standing the “Test of Time.”
The Steam Awards are conclusive with Steam’s most active games and most of the titles that were nominated were on sale during the Steam Winter Sale that ended on January 2.
