Spiderman closes Sony’s E3 show with a bang

Out of the blue, Sony hits us with a Spiderman game that looks amazing. The video announcing it takes us on a wild chase showcasing some crazy action.

People were expecting Sony to close the show with a game fans have been waiting rabidly for – like Last of Us 2 (WHEN SONY, WHEN???), but they had other plans. Sony threw a complete curveball, hitting everyone with Spiderman. In the 9-minute long video announcing the game, they took us on a wild, elaborate helicopter chase, web-slinging all the way doing some pretty amazing stuff. And the main thing is, even if the video was liberally peppered with short cut-scenes, the game looks AMAZING. Filled with comical self-banter and going extreme lengths to make sure he doesn’t kill anyone, the game (at least the trailer) ends up coming across as an interactive movie – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Marvel’s Spiderman from Insomniac Games – the same folks who brought us Ratchet and Clank (for the PS4) and Sunset Overdrive (For the XBox – We can definitely see the hints of those bright colours in Spiderman) is apparently an open world game set in modern New York City. You control the web-slinger to well… web-sling across the city and fight baddies, who seem to be divided into two (or maybe more) factions, one under Fisk, and the other called the Demons. We caught a brief glimpse of the main villain, one Mr Lee, a homeless shelter’s director who is also the head of the Demons (<.<) who seems to have chanced upon some evil, sparkly, powers. He does wield a badass sword though, we’ll give him that.

We know very little about the game at this point in time but we must say, if the game plays half as well as it looks, it’s going to be a welcome surprise. Marvel’s Spiderman comes out next year and we can’t wait to get our hands on it, although we are pretty bummed ( Read: extremely majorly bummed) that it’s a PS4 exclusive. Maybe we’ll get a PC port if it’s good. Who are we kidding, we definitely aren’t getting it on PC.
