This October 26 we saw the release of Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2. One of the most anticipated games of the year, it should come as no surprise that the game’s breaking records all over the place. The game is of course, set in a massive and densely packed open-world, with what we’re expecting to be an epic single-player campaign, and an online multiplayer mode coming later in November. Expectations are high, and from what we can tell, Rockstar has delivered. Rockstar Games are calling Red Dead Redemption 2 the “biggest entertainment launch of 2018”. Mind you, that’s entertainment launch, not video game launch. Meaning it’s the biggest launch trumping any movies, music, books or games that have launched this year.
Here’s some of the milestones the game has seen:
- Red Dead Redemption 2 has made over $725 million in worldwide sails on its first three days
- It’s the most per-ordered game on the PlayStation Network
Rockstar also added that at $725 million, RDR2 is the second highest grossing entertainment launch of all time. If you’re wondering what’s number one, if you hadn’t already guessed, it’s Grand Theft Auto V. Another Rockstar game. GTA V pulled in $1 billion in its first three days. These are insane numbers to be honest.
Nevertheless, RDR2 is still the highest-grossing opening weekend for a video game ever, since it launched on a Friday, GTA V launched on a Tuesday, so it loses out because of that technicality.
