PUBG surpasses Dota 2 on Steam in concurrent players count

We never thought we’d see the day but it’s actually happened. PLAYERUNKNOWN’s BATTLEGROUNDS was the number one most played game on Steam, surpassing both CS:GO – which it does on a regular basis now – and even Dota 2. The peak player count for PUBG is now also the second all-time highest for any game on Steam, behind only Dota 2, which holds the throne at almost 1.3 million concurrent players.

The game had over 870,000 concurrent players and that number is steadily rising. Only last month it had around 600,000 players and post-Gamescom it’s risen by over 250,000 in just a month. It shouldn’t come as a surprise if the game soon reaches and surpasses the 1 million player mark.

The game’s been on a rampage ever since it hit Early Access, with crazy sales. It just recently hit the 8 million mark in units sold recently. Players have been coming to the game like moths attracted to the flame. The game hasn’t even released it, imagine that.

While this is a milestone, we don’t expect it to remain at the top spot though, Dota 2 quite often has well over a million concurrent players on a daily basis. But PUBG will be sitting on a comfortable second regardless. And we have a gut feeling that this is not the first time PUBG will be visiting the top spot.
