This April Fool’s day, Grinding Gear Games announced that they were transforming Path of Exile into a 100-player Battle Royale and changing to Path of Exile Royale. The twist? They actually did it. Yea, not a joke. Well, maybe a joke that was taken too far? We dunno.
April Fool’s day came around a little while ago and as we all know, you don’t trust anything you see on April 1st. It’s the one day actual fake news gets called out for being fake news. But Grinding Gear Games took it to the next level. Here’s what they had to say in the post that announced Path of Exile Royale.
“Based on community feedback, we are announcing that we have abandoned the Action RPG genre to focus on what players really want. Path of Exile is being replaced by PATH OF EXILE: ROYALE, a 100-person free-for-all battle royale game.”
There’s a trailer and everything. And winners actually won a chicken dinner of sorts which they could display proudly in their hideouts.
The name actually updated to PATH OF EXILE: ROYALE (all caps because obviously) on Steam and the game mode was actually a thing. It was only for the one day though. So if you missed your chance, you missed out.
