Ori and the Blind Forest was a brilliant game. Ori and the Will of the Wisps apparently looks to improve upon that formula.
Ori and the Blind Forest was a dark horse in 2015 – It came out of nowhere and took the world by storm. It was a brilliantly made game with a story that plucked on your heartstrings, haunting melodies and gorgeous visuals. The game pulled you in, with beautiful progression and actually made you want to play just to figure out what happens next while the puzzles in the way were just minor obstacles – a small setback you had to go through to reach the other side. It wasn’t a game that grabbed you via intense action and put you on the edge of your seat, but one that you took your time with, savouring each puzzle as you came across it. And from what we can see, Ori and the Will of the Wisps looks to be a worthy sequel.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps incorporates all the things that made Ori and the Blind Forest good, such as the music score and the amazing story. And let’s not forget those graphics, the amazing visuals that made the journey all the more enjoyable.
We didn’t really get to see much with the release trailer but we do see Ori comforting a bird who seems to have lost its family. Perhaps a quest to reunite it with them? Or if they are lost as in lost (RIP bird parents), perhaps Ori takes the bird under his wing? (pun intended) We are grasping at straws here but with co-op being the flavour of the season (Look at A Way Out and Far Cry 5), it would be cool if two people could play as Ori and the bird and solve puzzles together. Let’s see what this new journey holds in store for us when Will of the Wisps launches sometime next year.
