Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene recently revealed what’s planned for PUBG in the year 2018. And there’s a lot planned. Two new PUBG maps are are planned, among a host of other things. Other planned features include more character customisations, emotes, new vehicles, new weapons, and an improved ballistics system.
According to Greene, the changes will arrive in packets, every two months (starting from this month). There were be smaller updates in between the big ones of course with any minor changes or fixes that might need to be addressed.
Among the first of the new things planned, a new 4×4 km map that’s about 1/4 the size of current PUBG maps is expected. It’s expected to have a rainforest-like theme with dense foliage and forestry. The smaller map should result in faster and more action-packed matches. It’s expected to be available on the test server next month. Another, 8×8 sized map is planned for later in the year.
There are also plans to expand custom game modes. Greene hasn’t specified what exactly the changes might be, but he adds they will be “new and interesting.”
New vehicles, weapons and attachments are also planned for the first half of 2018 and they’re also working on a limb and vehicle ballistic penetration system. Additionally, there are also plans to overhaul the parachuting system and improve melee combat.
In the customisation front, an emote system is being planned. Similar to what is present in Overwatch, or even Fortnite. They’re also going to add animations for things that don’t have animations right now, such as getting into vehicles and switching seats while in the car. There are more character customisations planned, but they weren’t specified.
Of course, work on the optimisation and stability of PUBG servers will still continue. And they will continue to come down hard on cheaters.
This is the roadmap so far for PUBG in 2018, Greene says there’s more planned, just not ready for announcing yet.
