Mass Effect: Andromeda multiplayer will feature a new ‘Strike Team’ system allowing seamless transition between single and multiplayer

In a recent conversation between Kotaku AU and BioWare producer Mike Gamble, it was revealed that Mass Effect: Andromeda multiplayer would feature a new system, dubbed ‘Strike Team’. The new system will allow you to seamlessly switch between single player and multiplayer within the game itself.

Mass Effect 3 had a peculiar approach to multiplayer. Multiplayer itself was standalone and had nothing to do with the main game. However, in order to achieve the best end-game scenario in the main game, you were expected to spend time playing multiplayer as well. Expectedly, the single player only community and of course those of us with poor internet connections were rather miffed by this format of multiplayer.

But it looks like BioWare intends to take a different direction with Andromeda multiplayer and are also overlapping it with the main story itself so that the two aren’t entirely disconnected.

According to Gamble, the ‘Strike Team’ system is “packaged around a meta-story of what’s going on in Helios.” He also added that these multiplayer elements will further explore into the meta-story but this is not a requirement and will not hinder the main story in any way. So if you’re a solo player, you needn’t worry about being hindered by the multiplayer and can leave it untouched. As for transition between single player and multiplayer modes, Gamble described the process as being “pretty seamless.”

Other than that, we don’t know anything else about what BioWare have planned for multiplayer, however, we’re expected to learn more about it from BioWare, hopefully by the end of this month. A recent tweet by Ian Frazier indicates that the multiplayer beta is indeed imminent very soon.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is expected to release on March 21, however, members of Origin Access will be able to play the game early.
