Last month (August), Henry Cavill of Superman fame said that he was a big fan of The Witcher, both the books and games, and that he would love to play Geralt in the upcoming Netflix television series. Well, Netflix has announced that Cavill has been confirmed for the role.
As it turn out, it looks like Cavill already knew he was going to play Geralt when he expressed his interest in taking up the role of the iconic character. Lauren Hissrich, who got the greenlight for the show mentioned that Cavill was his “first meeting”, and it was set even before there were any writers or scripts.
As mentioned by him on Twitter, “I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought. He IS Geralt. He always has been. I’m so thrilled to welcome Henry Cavill to the Witcher family.”
Here’s how Cavill broke the news on Instagram.
While at first glance it doesn’t seem like Cavill would fit the role of the iconic White Wolf, after a little consideration it doesn’t seem too implausible. He’s definitely got the physique for it, and he’s already accustomed to taking bad guys to town. The only qualm we seem to have is he won’t have the iconic voice of Doug Cockle.
But hey, at least he’s excited about it as well, and from Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool, we know how important a factor that can be.
