H1Z1 (formerly known as H1Z1: King of the Kill) just recently got out of early access and as a surprise, the game launched with a new game mode: Auto Royale. The new mode is a cars only battle royale mode where 30 teams of up to 4 members can participate. If you’ve played on the H1Z1 test servers then you would’ve been able to check the new game mode out. It’s actually quite fun.
H1Z1 itself has gone through quite a few changes during its time in early access, it’s been there for a while after all. First off, players are now able to choose where on the map they’ll spawn. It was random until now. It’s more akin to Battle Royale games like PUBG and Fortnite which allow players to choose where to land. This is good, it gives players more control over where they want to play. There’s a heatmap which updates every few seconds giving players an idea of where the action is happening. Additionally, developer Daybreak have also said that the price will remain the same once it departs Early Access.
H1Z1 Auto Royale
The Auto Royale mode in H1Z1 basically takes that moment where you and your squad find a car and drive across the map to the safe zone into an entire game mode. You’re locked in your car, so you can’t get out. But you can peek out the windows to shoot at other cars, You’ve got the circle of poison gas closing in as usual and since you can’t actually get out to loot, looting is done simply by driving over power-ups and pick-ups, which not only include the usual weapons and ammo, but also new powers that your car can use. Like drop mines or create oil spills.
You have a choice of two cars at the moment, the speedier sedan and the tanky military ARV. Weapons and ammo you collect show up in a shared inventory from which players can take their pick. Certain pickups and crates need to be shot at to open before picking up (driving over). There’s a lot of pickups and power-ups, to the point where it feels like a different game. Which is pretty cool. The game isn’t over till the car explodes or every person in the car is dead if the driver is killed, you need to switch with them. It’s worth checking out, and if you already have H1Z1, it’s a fun new mode, and if it does well, we might see variations of the same in PUBG or Fortnite, because after all, they do have H1Z1 to thank for their success.
