Fortnite is huge. You’d need to be blind not to notice that. Turns out, Fortnite may just be the biggest game ever, so far anyway. And we’re not talking in terms of size here. It’s breaking records all over the place, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Fortnite is the most viewed game on YouTube, surpassing Minecraft in the process.
This doesn’t come as a surprise after Twitch Streamer Ninja broke the then Twitch concurrent viewer record when streaming with rapper Drake with 630k concurrent viewers. Soon after, a YouTube spanish stream pulled in a whopping 1.1 million concurrent viewers.
The final milestone it would seem, was Minecraft, which had been dominating YouTube with billions of views per month. However, it’s been on a downward slope since the advent of Fortnite, as a result of which, Fortnite has surpassed Minecraft to become the most viewed game on YouTube. However, Minecraft still sits on top in terms of all-time peaks with close to 6 billion views a month.
It’s not just mainstream consoles that are affected by this. Even mobile games are getting left in the dust. Clash Royale, which was the biggest mobile game on the platform since March 2016, save a hiccup during the Pokemon Go craze, is also on a downward spiral.
Just between the months of January and February, Fortnite has seen a viewership growth of 151 percent. If that wasn’t all, it also holds the record for the most videos related to a video game uploaded in a single month EVER.
Fortnite is definitely going places. If you’re wondering why, it’s probably because it’s free to play. And actually fun.
