Final Fantasy VII on Switch

Nintendo will soon be releasing Final Fantasy VII on its Switch gaming console. The company has indicated it through a short thirty-second commercial in which the person is shown playing two games, the first being Final Fantasy VII and the second one was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The video was officially released on Nintendo’s YouTube channel. While Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is already available on the Nintendo store, Final Fantasy VII is yet to be released.

Square Enix, the original developers and publishers of Final Fantasy VII had originally revealed their plans to release the game on Switch in September 2018. However, they only said that it would be released “later in 2019” without giving any specific release date. Now 2019 is already in and Nintendo is here stating the game is “coming soon” which doesn’t give us a release date either but at least assures us that the game will be released somewhere within this quarter.

According to Square Enix, this game series will be based on the recent ports to other consoles like PlayStation and PC and not a Final Fantasy VII remake which is also in works. Final Fantasy VII was already available for PC since 2013 and was digitally available on the PlayStation store since 2015. The game will also be releasing on the Xbox One alongside Switch.

Other Final Fantasy games like Final Fantasy IX, the X, and X-2 remaster,  Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, World of Final Fantasy and an updated version of GameCube title Crystal Chronicles are also headed towards the Switch console.
