E3 2018: Ubisoft officially announces Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

June 12, 2018 — by Abhijit "BabuMoshaaye" Dey0

Ubisoft dropped few big titles at their E3 press conference and among them was Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Keeping a big title from leaking out can be difficult, especially when it’s an Assassin’s Creed game. We saw leaks come out when a keychain was spotted last month and few screenshots also leaked out a few days back. It was known that the next game was going to be based in Greece and now, Ubisoft has finally revealed the trailer and gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. While most of the game mechanics are similar to the previous game, Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Odyssey is going to introduce some massive gameplay changes never seen before in these titles. Naval battles are back in full swing, now with more of ramming and ranged attacks, a step ahead of Origins.

True open world RPG

Assassin’s Creed Origins introduced several traditional RPG-style elements to the weapons and abilities. Odyssey goes a step further by giving you a true RPG game through dialogue options, similar to the Witcher series. Naturally, the dialogues you choose will determine how your story will unfold through the main story.  So, apart from the cutscenes, there will be parts where you are going to have conversations will NPCs and you will have to choose your words carefully. This is the first time the franchise is entering the RPG genre where the previous games were mostly open world adventure games.

Two main characters

Most of the previous Assassin’s Creed games (except Syndicate) revolved around a single character’s journey through his struggle of becoming an Assassin. Even in Syndicate, only parts of the game allowed you to play with a different character. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey lets you play the game with two characters – Alexios or Kassandra. Picking either of them won’t affect the story since it’s only a character option and the background of the main character remains the same. This means that both will be served the same missions and set of dialogues through the game, However, the outcome will be completely based on your actions.

Improved combat

Combat mechanics will be going to the next level with the newly introduced power slots. You will get eight special abilities where four will be for melee attacks whereas the remaining for your bow. The melee attacks are new and one of them includes the iconic Leonidas Spartan kick, because it would have been a big miss if they hadn’t included this. You can also heal and break down the enemies shields, something we already saw in Origins. For your bow, it follows similar abilities from the previous game including one where you can shoot multiple arrows at once. We are pretty sure, you’ll also be getting the homing arrow ability later in the game.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is releasing on October 5, 2018 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
