Dota 2 TI prize pool has officially broken its old record

August 8, 2017 — by Manish "Trigger-Happy" Rajesh0

Every year, we watch the Dota 2 TI prize pool wondering if it will exceed last year’s pool. Well, no more wondering. The International prize pool is currently sitting on $24 million, $24,037,330 as of writing this to be exact. That’s about 4 million more than last year’s $20,770,460. The International is already in play, but players can still contribute to the prize pool via battle pass purchases.

Dota 2 TI

This is quite insane considering that just 5 years ago in 2012, the prize pool was $1.6 million. Sure that’s not a small amount, but it’s the scale at which it’s grown that we’re comparing here.

What is the Dota 2 TI?

In case you don’t know about Dota 2’s TI, it’s pretty much the biggest Dota 2 tournament to happen every year with the biggest prize pool for any Esport tournament. If you’re unfamiliar with Dota 2 or MOBAs in general then this probably won’t interest you. But if you’re new to the genre or have just picked the game up, or even have the slightest bit of interest then there’s nothing stopping you from watching TI.

If it’s your first time it might seem quite overwhelming but hey it’s one of the most watched tournaments in the world for a reason, so dive right in! Think of it as watching any other sports major event.

You can watch the stream on Twitch here. Heck, there’s even a noob-friendly newcomer twitch stream where you can watch. Check it out here.
