The creators of Undertale yesterday tweeted a very mysterious set of tweets, which all pointed towards something interesting being revealed, which as it turns out, was a new free game by the name of Delta Rune.
The tweets were made using a blacked out profile image and username, and the series of threads went something along the lines of “WELCOME. HAVE YOU BEEN LOOKING FOR ME? HOW WONDERFUL. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU AS WELL.”
The final few tweets went, “RETURN HERE IN HOURS. AT THAT TIME. I WILL ASK YOU A FEW QUESTIONS. THEN USING YOUR RESPONSES WE WILL APPROACH ITS REALISATION.”
Naturally, the tweets led to a lot of speculation, the leading of which was that this was the reveal for Undertale 2. It wasn’t Undertale 2, but it was definitely a very Undertale game.
For those of you wondering, Undertale was 2015 RPG that took everyone by surprise. Nobody expected the JRPG parody to be as good as it was, and the approaches you could take were interesting to say the least. Not many games encourage you to actually converse with the monsters you battle. You could actually finish the game with absolutely no violence. Consider that the game did incredibly well, despite it being the same year Metal Gear Solid V and the Witcher 3 came out.
The game that did end up coming out is called Deltarune, which was posted by Undertale’s creator Toby Fox some hours ago. As pointed out my several people, it’s an anagram for Undertale. The game is free for download and you can check it out here.
Interestingly, this is one of the warnings you see on the Deltarune download page.
Keep an eye out on Undertale and Toby Fox’s Twitter for more.
