Apex Legends breathes new life into Titanfall 2

Apex Legends clocked an astounding 25 million player base in just one week of launch, some of which is slightly bleeding into the underrated Titanfall 2.

Titanfall 2

According to a post on the Apex Legends subreddit yesterday, around 10k players were playing Titanfall 2 on Xbox One. For context, the 2016 FPS game’s previous year maximum count was something around just 5k. This apparently happened after the recent launch of the Battle Royale game Apex Legends which is set in the Titanfall universe.

On PS4, the game has reached around 5k players which is a significant rise from 2-3k earlier and on PC, the numbers reached from around 1.3k to 3.5k. That being said, another reason for the rise in the player base can be attributed to the game being frequently available on sale on PSN, XBL and clearance stores for as low as $5.

Titanfall 2 had garnered some great reviews back in the days, however, the launch time of the game spearheaded its early death. The game was launched one week after Battlefield 1’s launch, the vastly popular FPS game also published by EA and one week before the launch of another major FPS, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. So the two “big daddies” in the same FPS genre quite overshadowed the lesser popular Titanfall 2.

In spite of such an unsatisfactory start to Titanfall 2, EA had proposed they didn’t lose any faith in the franchise. Well, they were right since, after two long years, their faith on the Titanfall series has finally paid off in a rather uncanny way after the launch of Apex Legends. Furthermore, Respawn says that they are working on “more Titanfall” with a new game to expect this year.
