A great way to not screw up a franchise is to simply let it be. That’s exactly what Sonic Runners Adventure is. A classic Sonic game built for mobile with a few pesky microtransactions thrown in. Fans of the Sonic games would immediately be reminded of Sonic 2 as the one that did it right. Let us not get your hopes up because this game does not match up to Sonic 2, however, it does come pretty close.
The controls for Sonic Runners Adventure is ridiculously simple because all you do is control your jumping. You can simply tap for short jumps or tap and hold to gain more height. Like the classic Sonic game, this too is a side-scrolling platformer where Sonic is endlessly running. You cannot change the direction nor can you get stuck at a wall. If you’ve stopped, you’re going to lose.
There are a lot of different elements in a typical Sonic Runners Adventure that can put your tapping skills to the test but those tend to come in the later levels. The starting few are ridiculously simple. You have a myriad set of ring arrangements which need to be collected, then there are gaps, spikes, evil ladybugs and bees who’ll knock out all the rings that you have collected during the course of a level. Occasionally, you’ll come across scripted sequences which play out on their own without any input from you.
To spice things up, certain levels will have a few new elements so as to not make things appear monotonous. You’ll have laps within levels so that you can take a different path and collect more rings. Or you’ll have timed levels to keep you on the edge. That being said, the developers do appear to have been restricted. On one end, you want to add new things to make the game stand out from the previous titles, however, on the other hand you can’t have too many new elements since that’s more likely to piss fans off.
Overall, Sonic Runners Adventure is a neat game with not as many challenging elements. It’s a lot more casual and suited for people playing on their mobiles but we’re certain that fans out the series would have certainly liked to see more.

Deep in the suburban jungle roams the only member of the mystical species, Barbarianicus Ass-kick-us. This super awesome creature carries with it the answers to none of life's mysteries. Then what on earth could be so awesome about him? Being able to binge-game for countless hours and exercise remarkable restraint over his penchant for sarcasm around members of lesser species are just some of qualities that make him likeable...really likeable. xD
