Mayhem – PvP arena shooter game review – Android and iOS

MOBAs are awesome and it is fair to say that they’re one of the most popular genres of games around the world, with simultaneous player counts in some of the top MOBAs being more than quite a few of the next games combined. Unfortunately, if you’re a smartphone gamer like a lot of people, there aren’t many good options – or there weren’t before Mayhem.

Taking the familiar design of a platform shooter and making a 3vs3 arena based MOBA out of it is a brilliant idea, and it has been done really well in Mayhem. There is a central capture platform around which most of the action takes place, and you also get to place sentries on certain platforms. Each of your heroes come with their own special abilities which can be charged by collecting purple orbs around the arena.

You start off with the tank-like character of Rhino, moving onto other players like the sniper-like archer Kira and more. Depending on your playing style and how well it goes with the specific characters abilities, you could play each map in a completely different way. For instance, Rhino can push other players off the platform whereas Kira has a pulsating special that causes continuous damage to the players it passes through. More players, abilities and arenas are unlocked as you progress through the levels. The game also has a practice mode for you to hone your skills.

Mayhem is very engaging and would appeal to even non-MOBA players due to its familiar platformer approach. Maybe it could even be a perfect gateway drug into the world of MOBAs for the doubtful as well! Give this one a shot or two and see yourself get hooked in no time.

Crash..boom..crash!!! That's the sound of an extraterrestrial cyborg being knocked down mid flight. He is still not completely functional, and while he fixes himself, you might find him engulfed in humanity's most addictive invention - what you call "gaming". After all, its the only thing that simulates his dimension so well. Please note - Do not engage, not unless you come bearing food.
