This game is a platformer where you must guide Mimpi, the canine protagonist, through a path strewn with puzzles so he can get to bed and resume sleeping. The levels take place in a wide variety of locations like the jungle, a laboratory inhabited with mice and an underground factory. The characters that Mimpi comes across invariably think of him as a superhero and ask for his help. That is why Mimpi becomes a fierce advocate of banning animal testing.
There is a storybook feel to every scene of Mimpi Dreams. Sometimes, the characters and objects in the game are things you would see in your daily life. At other times, these are otherworldly and absurd, like a rat creature with a sock for a nose and a stick for a body. The soundtrack is pleasant and really complements the feel of the game. Another interesting thing about this game is its reliance on picture clues both to convey the story and little side quests as well as for the hints to solve the puzzles. The game has a leisurely pace and requires you to fully absorb all the details in the scene laid out before you. You never know when a tiny detail that you almost missed turns out to be the key to getting ahead.
The puzzles will tickle your brain but are never punishing so those looking for a harder challenge may not enjoy this very much. Hints for the puzzles can be unlocked by payment in bones that you come across occasionally. There are a few parts of the game that require quick reflexes but even if you do die in these, you are immediately reborn and can do so an infinite number of times. Mimpi Dreams is not a game which coaxes you to be competitive, it is all about revelling in the details.
