Dunkers is a pixelated little game about dunking. It is uncomplicated and immensely easy to pick up which is a large part of its appeal. There is not much variation in terms of gameplay and in that respect it is quite like ‘Drive Ahead’, a simple game about driving on the other player’s head. It focuses on providing you a streamlined, arcade experience without many frills and this makes it very easy to pick up and play anytime you want to procrastinate just a little bit more.
In Dunkers, you control a tiny pixelated woman, monkey or ninja and guide them across the court to dunk in their hoop. The physics are the most amusing part of this game and dunking is easier written about than done. The movements of the characters (all of whom sport exceptionally long arms which reach far beyond their knees and indeed, their entire bodies) are unpredictable in the best way.
There are two buttons, one to retreat and the other to jump forward on either side of the screen. The extremely long arms that were mentioned earlier are also inhumanly flexible and can go 360 degrees around the player to enable him to steal the ball from the opponent at any point in midair (which is where most of the game takes place).
There is an arcade mode where you are pitched against a random opponent from within the game. The best part however, is the 2 player mode. Just like Drive Ahead, Dunkers is a perfect couch multiplayer and offers countless hours spent trying to beat your annoying sibling or friend. It does not need an internet connection and is a good fallback option when Mini Militia does not work or when you have run out of data for the month. Get dunking already.
