Cutscenes can serve a number of purposes. Most of the time it’s simply a convenient means of progressing the story. They’re also an excellent storytelling tool to help the player progress and immerse them further into the game. But what happens when cutscenes from games are stitched together into long gaming supercuts? In-game movie magic!

Traditionally cutscenes are pre-rendered, animated separately, or live-action. These days however with the advances in graphical technology, most modern video game cutscenes are rendered completely in-game. This means that they are generated entirely with the video games resources.

We’ve all been impressed by some cutscene or the other. Many a time we may even have been rewarded with special, unlockable cutscenes.

Usually during cutscenes all control is wrested from the player. There are some cases where players are granted a certain amount of interaction – the God of War series being a prime example of this gameplay mechanic.

Gaming Supercuts

Games have often been criticised for using cutscenes, for the fact that they take players out of the game. While this is true in many cases, and the blame lies entirely on lazy developers, some cutscenes have become the stuff of legends in the history of gaming. These game cutscenes are so epic they can rival some of the most memorable Hollywood moments witnessed on the silver screen.

Now there are some fans out there who go through the trouble of editing all cutscenes from games they love, and we mean ALL cutscenes, into gaming supercuts, or cutscene movies of sorts, if you will. We’ve all been guilty of it at some point of time, where we just head to YouTube and get lost while watching the plethora of cutscenes or gaming supercuts from games that have been edited into movies.

These gaming supercuts are usually edited together cohesively as a whole and the well edited ones are often seamless. They could very easily pass off as full length feature films. So without any further ado, here are our top 5 gaming supercuts in no particular order.
