Bethesda says Sony won’t allow mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4 on the PS4

If you’ve been following Bethesda then you know that earlier this year they announced of their plans to allow mods for Fallout 4 and their upcoming TES V: Skyrim remaster for the PS4 and Xbox One. This of course earned them several brownie points and fans of these games – especially the ones who had them on consoles – were elated to finally be able to use mods. And we can understand why – mods were what gave PC gamers the edge in these games, especially when they fixed various game-breaking bugs and made the overall experience that much more enjoyable. However, there’s been a turn of events and it looks like no mods will be coming to PS4 and may remain exclusive to Xbox One.

Bethesda announced in an update on their site that Sony was against Bethesda enabling user mods the way they’re meant to work, indicating no mods coming up for PS4. Following which they did try to get in touch with Sony but to no avail.

Here’s what Bethesda had to say on this:
“After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us that there would be no mods  made by users, the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.

Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.
We will provide an update if and when this situation changes.”

The Xbox One already supports mods on Fallout 4 and we can safely presume that it will also support mods for the Skyrim Remaster once it launches October.
