Up, up and away
It’s been barely a week since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild came out and we’re already starting to see Breath of the Wild speedruns. And knowing speedrunners, they’re bound to come with some really innovative ways to move around more quickly.
One such neat trick was discovered by Venick409, a prolific member of the speedrunning community. He shared a clip of this neat trick via Twitter, which you can see below. This trick is not only clever, it’s pretty cool to watch as well.

In case you’re wondering what took place, Link uses stasis rune on the gigantic boulder, after which he proceeds to ‘charge’ the boulder with a hammer. He does this by whacking the boulder a couple times, facing the direction he wants to go. He then hops onto the charged boulder, which after the clock runs out on the stasis rune power, goes flying in that direction. Taking Link along with it as well, of course.
It takes about 30 seconds to prep the whole thing and while it looks quite neat, there are a few problems that come with it as well. The first one being actually finding a boulder big enough support Link and the second being getting the direction right. It can be quite tricky to get the boulder to go in the direction you want it to. So yea, it’ll take some practice.
But there’s no denying what Venick409 had to say about this trick – expect to see more innovative tricks popping up in the future of Breath of the Wild speedruns. You can already find a host of Breath of the Wild speedruns on the YouTube and Twitch. Some are shockingly short, at just over an hour long, but since you can finish the game without needing to finish the story, that works out in favor of speedrunners.
